11th May to 15th May Weekly update Reception
Hi to you all,
We are really enjoying looking at all the work you have been sending us and seeing what you are getting up to on the school website blog!
You can also ‘upload’ pictures of your work for comment and rewards to Purple Mash. Send us an email in Purple Mash when you have done this to let us know.
Here are a few suggestions for activities you may want to follow along with this week:
There’s a choice in how you prefer to work in Maths. You can look to the White Rose materials as we have been doing or continue with the Oak Academy Maths lessons as we use for English.
You can take a photo of their work and share it to the Blog or you can easily upload it to ‘My Work’ Purple Mash following the guide below. The advantage of this is that we can give direct feedback and awards and still share it to the Display Board in Purple Mash too. Give it a go and see what you think!
Phonics for Reception There are some excellent videos for teaching phonics here. The Set 1 video goes over the sounds we have already learnt, with a word time and spelling session and is shown at 9.30. Set 2 will be learning a new sound and spelling with this sound and is shown at 10 a.m.
Reception this week will be using the Oak Academy Materials again, Week 3 English, based around the story of Little Red Riding Hood. These lessons are best followed in sequence, starting with the Monday lesson. Included in the lesson are some phonics activities too as well as a quiz to recap the learning. Tap on the green buttons at the bottom of the page to make sure you do all the activities.
Online reading books are available here. Try to do a little bit of reading every day.
Practise handwriting every day.
Three stories will be published each week on this YouTube channel and are ideal for Nursery, Reception and KS1 children. So far, they are filming stories by Jeanne Willis, Tom Percival, Jill Murphy, Cressida Owen and Claire Freedman.
This week we are sorting food by using our senses. Look here on our website.
Play Dinosaur Discovery on BBC Bitesize.
Please then make a fact file about a dinosaur, choosing from: Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus and Diplodicus. There is a fact file set up for you in Purple Mash 2Dos or you can make your own on paper and post them on the Blog or take a photo and upload it to Purple Mash in ‘My Work’ straight from your computer or pad. Think about what the dinosaur looks like, its size, what it eats, where it lived and see if you can find out a fun fact.
Further the children’s thinking and ask; Why do you think this dinosaur has a long neck/tail? Why has that dinosaur only got small arms? Dinosaurs are a type of animal. Can you name any other type of animal? What about humans? Tell the children that humans are classed as animals.
This week’s lesson is all about Hope and looks at how a rainbow is used as a message of hope to Noah and his family. You can find an activity sheet on our website here. Please post it on the blog or upload your rainbows to Purple Mash.
This week's sport focus is netball. Click here to find the activities linked to football you can have a go at home with this week, including a daily challenge. Why not post a blog about this? We'd love to hear how you're staying active!
Have you been feeling bored? Take a look here for some ideas about beating boredom focused around the Jill Murphy story ‘Whatever Next’

There’s a new Eco Activity from Oak Academy this week, collecting natural objects you find on your daily walk to make a picture of your own face. Click here.
