The children had a brilliant time competing for their House team at Sports Day and the weather managed to stay dry during the event. It was great to see so many parents, friends and grandparents come to support their children and many thanks to FOBs for providing refreshments afterwards.
The afternoon provided an opportunity for children to have fun in a range of competitive and less competitive races, the highlight being the water race that the Year 6's chose to be the theme for their leaver's race! Well done to everyone involved!
Key Stage 2 intra school athletics event
A huge well done to our Year 5 Young Bronze Ambassadors for planning, organising and delivering an intra school athletics event. It was so great to see the children developing sports leadership skills and encouraging others to take part in a fun-filled afternoon of athletics activities.
Year 5/6 Quad Kids
Barlow competed against a number of local Dronfield schools at Dronfield Henry Fanshawe school. The teams had to complete a howler throw, standing long jump, sprint and long distance run. All children involved worked very hard and secured our best finishing position yet. Well done!
Children from Year 5 and 6 took part in the NED's Basketball tournament at Eckington Secondary School. The team played amazingly, showed superb skills and fortitude. We're very proud of their achievement and our new trophy takes pride and place in the hall for all to see!
We gained Gold!
Mrs Karen Shopland visited school on Monday 23rd January to present the Sainsbury's School Games Award to the children in recognition of our ongoing commitment to PE and school sport. To be awarded gold means that an extremely high proportion of the children at Barlow are involved in extra curricular sporting activities and competitions. Well done everyone!
Karen also very kindly shared her experiences as a volunteer for the 2016 Rio Olympics in an inspirational assembly. The children watched video footage of some very talented local athletes who gained medals in the Olympics as well as viewing some of Karen's 'claim to fame' moments on television! Thank you Karen for sharing your time in Rio with the children, they were truly inspired.👍
Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics
6 boys and 6 girls competed against Dronfield schools in an energetic and nail biting Sportshall athletics competition at Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School. The team worked hard and demonstrated exceptional commitment and determination throughout, with some excellent athletic skills. Well done to those who took part.
Year 5/6 Boccia Event
A team of 5 boys competed in a Boccia event at the Gladys Buxton Centre in Dronfield. Boccia, which is a game similar to boules, requires accurate throwing techniques, concentration and tactical play. This was the first Boccia event that Barlow has competed in and the boys did us proud. Well done!
