What have socks and lego got to do with Science?
Class 4 have found out today after a visit from embryologists Dr Saxton and Mrs Cutting. Our session was titled ' Who are we and where do we come from?'
We found out that every human being starts off as one tiny cell that multiplies into trillions of others before we are born. Each cell is made up of 23 chromosome pairs (just like 23 pairs of socks). These chromosomes are controlled by DNA which fits together like tiny building blocks of genes in long lines, all different lengths, sizes and patterns (just like the lego).
The children enjoyed finding out lots of detail about how we inherit different characteristics from our parents.
It was a great learning experience. Thank you to Dr Saxton and Mrs Cutting.
