Bereavement in the family

A death and bereavement is a difficult time for everyone, and although children are often shielded from these events they are usually aware and confused with the emotions and changes around them. Firstly, we recommend that you speak to your child's class teacher if there has been a bereavement and they can keep a supportive eye on them, perhaps putting other support in place such as time to talk, time with peers when needed and a chance to access our Positive Play sessions if necessary.

Supporting a child through a bereavement can be a challenging time for parents, especially when you may well be processing your own grief at the same time too.

We have a selection of children's books in school that you are welcome to borrow to share with your child. These books are often well reviewed and deal with the difficult concept of death through stories and illustrations. Please speak to the office if you feel this may be of help to you.

Below is a link to the Book trust books for bereavement and a link to the Chesterfield Royal Hospital's bereavement services that may also be of use.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,
