Each week, homework is handed out on a Thursday and returned the following Tuesday.
Please make sure your child's homework is kept in their named zip mesh folder to prevent homework being spoiled or lost. Please support your child with their homework where you can.
Your child will be sent home with a White Rose maths worksheet each week that will relate to previous content taught during Maths lessons at school. Children should complete all questions to the best of their ability.
It is important for children regularly practise their timetables through to 12x12, as well as practise their fluency of the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). This can be achieved by using the Home Learning section on White Rose (website linked below) or playing Hit The Button (website linked below).
Your child will be sent home with a reading comprehension worksheet on a different topic each week that they need to read out loud to themselves or an adult. Once finished, they should complete the 5 comprehension questions that relate to the text to check their understanding of what they have read to the best of their ability.
It is important for children to regularly read for pleasure at home. Reading empowers children, builds empathy, encourages their imagination and lays the foundation for lifelong success. By the end of KS1 (Year 2), children should be reading out loud at a speed of 90-100 words per minute. At the end of KS2 (Year 6), it should be significantly higher.
Children can choose to read a variety of books e.g. fiction, non-fiction, comics, magazines etc. that relate to their interests. When reading at home with your child, please document this in their reading diary with any necessary comments. Their reading diary should be taken home with them at the end of every school day and returned the following day.
Your child will be set a 2do (Spelling Quiz) each week on Purple Mash (website linked below) to practise their weekly spellings. If your child prefers to practise their spellings using the 'Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check' worksheet, this can be found in their homework zip mesh folder. Children will complete a spelling test on Wednesday each week of the words they have learned.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
