Read another version of the story and compare.
Recap the story map and draw a picture for the next part of the story, the solution. The part of the story that makes it alright again. Now this is the part that we are going to change ourselves. Think of some of the stories we have heard and what happened at the end of the story. Who came to save granny and Red Riding Hood?
Think about characters who could save Red Riding Hood, could it be her daddy? Could it be the wolf’s daddy or mummy? Have a think for yourself. Could it be a shepherd, or a hunter, or red riding hood herself?

In my story I have chosen the shepherd. He calls at granny’s to check Red Riding Hood got there OK, and sees that the wolf is dressed in granny’s clothes.
I might write:
Suddenly there was a knock at the door and the shepherd had come to check that Red Riding Hood had arrived at granny’s. He could not believe his eyes when he saw the wolf in granny’s clothes.

Draw pictures for this part of the story.
Ask the children to tell you sentences to tell the story for their pictures. As you write what the children are telling you, encourage them to write some of the words that they could sound out and spell independently, using their ‘fred fingers’. Remember also to have a go at writing the red words that the children are able to read.
