6th-10th July

Hello Sapphire class!

How are you all? Can you believe we only have 2 weeks left until the end of term? I hope you are still working hard? Thankyou for all of your work this week, it's great to see that you are keeping up with your home learning tasks.

Maths

If you've finished your theme park maths, continue with Power Maths if you have the home version or use bbc bitesize daily lessons to keep your Maths skills ticking over. Don't forget I have put some investigations in the Maths folder too. This week, check the Maths resources section for some Greek themed Maths about labyrinths and mazes. The Powerpoint slides take you through how to create your own. You will need squared paper, a pencil, ruler and a rubber for this task.

Check Purple Mash for any Maths 2dos that I have set for you too.

Reading/SPAG/Writing

I have allocated you a Greek myth story called The Lost myth of Mathos on Purple Mash. Read Chapter 1 and 2 this week then answer the multiple choice questions about it on Purple MashThere is also a writing task for each chapter that has been set as a 2do. For SPAG and further comprehension questions linking to Chapter 1 and 2, find them in the English resources section of the class page here.

English/music/computing

As we are nearing the end of term, I would like you to start reflecting back on your time at Barlow ( if you haven't already been doing this!) Follow this link to an online lesson that gives you chance to think about some of your fondest memories at school- these could be recent or when you very first started, they could be funny or happy...whatever is worth telling a story about! The Year 6's in school have already started this, and they really do have some funny stories to tell! There is also a celebration song to learn too- we have been practising this in school and it sounds great!

Task 1: Once you have chosen your favourite memory, i'd like you to write about it. Use the resources about writing memoirs here to support your writing. Upload it to your work folder on Purple Mash or send an email to Miss Vick, or even blog about it. I have also set you a 2do to create a memory e-book on Purple Mash so you can record your memories here too.

Task 2: I would like to put together a short Year 6 video and would love you to record yourself talking about the memory you have chosen. Practise first, try not to read from the paper and remember to look directly at the camera. Keep this short, so summarise your written memory for the purpose of the video. If you would rather send in a general 'goodbye and thank you' video clip, that is fine too. Please ask a grown up to help with this task and then email it to me ( school email) by Friday 10th July to give me enough time to put the clips together.

Video Format: I have come up with a fun idea that will link together our video messages. All you need is a toilet roll (yes, a toilet roll!) Follow these steps to perfect your funny clip:

1.Find a suitable location- you garden, bedroom, kitchen, on a walk...anywhere.

2.You will need two 'helpers' for this- one to film you and one to throw the toilet roll to you. Position yourself so you are in front of the camera. Out of shot, ask a family member to stand to the side and throw a toilet roll to you for you to catch.

3. Catch the toilet roll and turn to the camera and say your message.

4. Throw the toilet roll in the opposite direction you caught it as though you are passing it on to someone else.

To get the ideas, watch this video clip of something similar done by some teachers at another school. Good luck!

You also have your weekly spelling task set as a 2do on Purple Mash. For additional supporting resources to help you learn these spellings please look in the spellings section of our class page. Any work that you do, please save to your Purple Mash work folder so that I can see it, or post a blog about what you have been up to.

Topic/DT- Linking to the Maths and our Ancient Greece topic, find resources here to learn more about labyrinths and mazes and to make one of your own.

Physical Activity:  This week, the School Games personal challenge is based on racket sports. Follow this link here for daily activities that can be done at home to keep you active.

PHSE/wellbeing: By now, you should have had some contact from your secondary schools. They may have sent you a link to some work on their website for you to be doing. This is such an exciting time for you but also one that might leave you feeling a little bit worried about this new chapter in your life. This is completely normal and you are bound to have questions that you want to ask. Always talk about your feelings with someone you can trust. You can always send me an email and I will always respond. Use this link to the BBC bitesize resources for some useful resources about moving on to Secondary school.
